I kind of love Sting's new album, The Last Ship. It's the story, in songs that evoke old English folk songs, of various characters who live in a dying shipbuilding town, and Sting often sings in character, doing voices and accents. Every time I think it may lapse into laughability or pretension, it overcomes that by becoming more clever and more beautiful.
