RUBEN BOLLING AT THE SMALL PRESS EXPO

I’m really looking forward to the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, MD, September 17 and 18**, where I’ll be attending as a Special* Guest.

I’ll be around the whole weekend, but I’m committed to be at these places at these times:

-> Saturday 11:30am-1:00pm, Table W66

-> Saturday 2:00pm-3:00pm, Panel: Insiders and Outsiders: Perspectives on Political & Social Commentary

-> Saturday 3:00pm-4:00pm, Table W66

-> Sunday 12:30-1:00pm, Table W66

-> Sunday 2:00-2:30pm, Table W66

When I’m at the Table, I’ll be signing books, selling books, sketching in books, high-fiving, fist-bumping, elbow-bashing, answering questions, asking questions, and generally glad-handing. Come by and say hello; I will be truly happy to glad your hand.

*Their word, not mine.

UPDATE 9/22/22:

Wow, thank you to everybody who came by the table, attended the panel, or accosted me in hallways. This was a fantastic weekend. The Comics Journal and its relentless paparazzi tracked me down, and as you can see here took pictures of me despite my best efforts to get away. The interview is reproduced below, and you can see the entire article HERE.

That’s a lot of books!

Having recently started publishing collections of his syndicated comic strip Tom the Dancing Bug with Clover Press, Ruben Bolling tabled for the first time this year.

Ruben Bolling (Tom the Dancing Bug): The vibe in this room is so supportive and pro-comics and pro-creativity. Most of the people, whether they’re behind the table or in front of it, are creative in some way. And it’s so much fun to just talk to everybody. I really don’t go to many conventions. I’ve started a whole publishing program of the complete Tom the Dancing Bug, so I just wanted to dip my toe into conventions, and tabling, which I’ve really never done much of, to see how that goes.

I’ve sat behind tables at various things for very short periods of time, but yeah, this is the first time [running a table at a convention] and it’s going great. Everyone is super-supportive. The DC area really has been supportive to me, because I was in the Washington Post for a number of years. And so it’s one of my favorite places to come. I’m not a huge expert on conventions, but this is definitely one where it is not cold and removed. It’s a very warm atmosphere. And very egalitarian, where everyone can just talk to each other and there’s no VIP room. Everyone is here to have a good time and to share the joys of creating comics.

WELCOME

You have arrived at the new site of the Tom the Dancing Bug Page: New and Improved.

The archives of the old site/blog have been shifted over here, so you shouldn’t notice a difference, except that this looks much better, and I now have some new pages, such as the Tom the Dancing Bug Store.

Make yourself at home, and please visit often.
